DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is a naturally occurring hormone precursor that the body converts into estrogens and androgens. Applied vaginally, DHEA is converted locally within the vaginal tissue, helping restore thickness, elasticity, and natural lubrication with minimal effect on circulating hormone levels. It is commonly prescribed for symptoms of genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM), including vaginal dryness, irritation, and painful intercourse. Because it supports both estrogen and androgen activity in the tissue, some women report improvements in comfort and sexual function. DHEA can also be an option for women who prefer to avoid applying estrogen directly.
