Ivermectin (Veterinary)
Ivermectin is an antiparasitic agent that paralyzes and eliminates susceptible parasites by acting on their nerve and muscle cells. Veterinarians prescribe it for heartworm prevention and to treat mites, including mange and ear mites, along with certain intestinal worms in dogs, cats, and other companion animals. Compounding allows accurate dosing across a wide range of body weights and species, in forms such as oral suspensions, capsules, and topical preparations. Certain herding breeds, such as Collies and Australian Shepherds, may carry an MDR1 gene mutation that increases sensitivity to ivermectin. Your veterinarian may recommend testing before treatment.
