Prednisolone (Veterinary)
Prednisolone is a corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects. Veterinarians prescribe it for a wide range of conditions in dogs, cats, and horses, including allergies, skin disease, asthma, inflammatory bowel disease, and immune-mediated disorders. It is often preferred over prednisone for cats, because the body must convert prednisone into prednisolone and cats do this poorly. Blackburn Drug can compound prednisolone into flavored oral suspensions, capsules, treats, or transdermal preparations. Dosing is usually tapered over time, and treatment should not be stopped abruptly without veterinary guidance.
